Rockstar Games is preparing to reveal the first trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6 in early December (perhaps at The Game Awards on December 7th). Despite leaks and reports of scaling down, there’s plenty of hype for the open-world title, rumored to release in 2025. Publisher Take-Two Interactive isn’t setting expectations, though.
When asked by Games Industry what he expects from the sequel, CEO Strauss Zelnick, “We don’t tend to set particular expectations for any future releases. Our job is to be the most creative, the most innovative, and the most efficient entertainment company in the world.
“All of our creative teams at our labels are trying to create perfection. And the result of that has been that we have 11 franchises that have each sold over five million units in individual releases and that we have the largest and most diverse collection of owned intellectual property across mobile and console in the interactive entertainment business.”
To that end, even if momentum is on its side (Grand Theft Auto 5 has shipped 190 million units in its lifetime), the publisher isn’t claiming victory just yet. “It’s a result of that strategy and the extraordinary effort of our creative team that has led us now to become the No.2 pure-play interactive entertainment company on earth. So we stay away from claiming victory until it’s occurred – but we’re super optimistic about the company’s lineup across the board.”
Nothing about Grand Theft Auto 6 has been officially revealed, though reports from Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier indicate a fictional version of Miami as the setting.
