Seriously people, Batman is dead. He ain't coming back. No Lazarus Pit, no magic, just dead. Well, except for in the six-issue prequel comic for Gotham Knights. Batman: Gotham Knights - Gilded City was announced at DC's San Diego Comic-Con panel, and will reveal the events leading up to Gotham Knights. The series will be written by Evan Narcisse (Gen: LOCK, Rise of the Black Panther), with art by ABEL (Harley Quinn).
According to Popverse, the story will revolve around a deadly virus that has infected Gotham City and turned its citizens into mindless, rage-fueled maniacs. However, this is a result of events that took place in Gotham in the 1800s, and involves one of the city’s original masked vigilantes, Runaway. We may also find out how Batman meets his demise and totally, really stays dead.

The one and only Greg Capullo will create the covers for each of the six issues, each of which will also contain a code for an in-game cosmetic item. The first one will be a skin for the BOSO22 Batcycle. Redeeming all six items will result in you receiving a bonus seventh item as well. The first issue will launch on October 25, and will feature variant covers by Yanick Paquette, Christopher Mitten, Jim Lee, and Scott Williams.
In case you missed it, Batman will definitely be dead in Gotham Knights. Creative director Patrick Reddin made sure that everyone at the SDCC Comic-Con panel knew that Warner Bros. was not kidding about Batman being "really dead" and remaining dead at the end of the game.
