New gameplay footage from Warner’s Batman-less Batman game has emerged, but with some bad news for last gen console owners.
Warner Bros. had already teased a new gameplay reveal for Gotham Knights today, focusing on playable characters Nightwing and Red Hood, but what no one expected was the announcement that the last gen versions of the game have been scrapped.
No explanation has been offered as to why, other than it’s to ‘provide players with the best possible gameplay experience’.
Although up until this point the game hasn’t been shown much in public, there’s never been anything about it that seemed to necessitate a next gen only release, and the new gameplay footage doesn’t really suggest anything either.
Rocksteady’s Suicide Squad game is already next gen only, but it seems unlikely to have anything to do with that.
The game was certainly conceived as a cross-gen title and although it was only officially announced in 2020 rumours go back years before that, with developer WB Games Montréal not having released a new game since 2013’s Batman: Arkham Origins.
Despite the game’s story revolving around Batman’s presumed death this is supposedly not set in the same universe as the Arkham games, as you take control of one of four sidekicks: Batgirl, Robin, Nightwing, and Red Hood.
The game is known to have two-player co-op but a recent product listing suggests it actually supports four players at once, although it’s unclear if this is in a separate mode or not.
The new gameplay video doesn’t touch on the subject, although it does look a lot of fun – with combat that’s certainly reminiscent of the Arkham titles.
Gotham Knights is due out on October 25, on a now reduced set of formats: Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
