Google is celebrating National Small Business Week by offering online learning scholarships worth up to $100,000 in workforce training.
As Reuters reports, companies in the US can apply for up to 500 Google Career Certificates to train employees for jobs in data analytics, digital marketing and e-commerce, IT support, project management, or user experience (UX) design.
The offer marks an expansion of Google's Career Certificates program, which launched in 2018 to help people globally enhance their resumés.
"It's no secret that businesses of all sizes are struggling to acquire and retain talent," Lisa Gevelber, founder of Grow with Google, the unit overseeing certificates, wrote in a blog announcement. "Those who create growth opportunities for their employees have a much better shot at retaining them."
Designed and taught by Google employees and sold through online education platform Coursera Inc., lessons typically cost about $39 a month and take three to six months to complete. That bill—whether paid out of pocket or footed by your employer—is now covered by Google for up to 500 workers.
"The pandemic accelerated the need for digital tools," according to Gevelber, who noted that "digitally advanced businesses have been more financially resilient," hiring at twice the rate of their peers. With that in mind, the tech firm added a new digital marketing and e-commerce certificate for teaching users how to find customers, build and run online stores, measure analytics, and increase customer loyalty.
No experience is required to take these courses, and workers can earn an industry-recognized credential that opens the door to jobs in more than 150 companies including Crate & Barrel, Infosys, Shopify, Verizon, Walmart,
