Google Meet has been updated with the ability to livestream directly to YouTube.
Google says(Opens in a new window) administrators will have to jump through a few hoops to use this feature, however. Administrators have to enable livestreaming within Google Meet, and they have to get their YouTube account approved for livestreaming, which the company says can take up to 24 hours.
Once that's all taken care of, streaming to YouTube from Google Meet should be as simple as opening the Activities panel in Google Meet, clicking "Live Streaming," and selecting the appropriate YouTube account. (Although livestreaming is rarely that straightforward in practice.)
Google says it added this feature to Meet because livestreaming can be "useful in situations where you want to present information to large audiences outside of your organization, giving them the opportunity to pause and replay as needed, or view the presentation at a later time."
The company says this feature is available to Google Workspace Enterprise Starter, Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Plus, Education Plus, Teaching and Learning Upgrade customers; Google Workspace Individual Users; and Google One premium subscribers "in select countries."
Livestreaming to YouTube from Google Meet is available now to eligible Google Workspace and Google One subscribers on the Rapid Release cycle; access will start to roll out to Scheduled Release domains on July 25. Google has published support articles for admins(Opens in a new window) and users(Opens in a new window) alike.
