The God of War Ragnarök release date is still uncertain, but recent teases and tweets from producer Cory Barlog may be hinting at an impending reveal. 2018's God of War created a fresh start for the beloved PlayStation franchise by taking protagonist Kratos out of Greece and into the world of Norse mythology. The soft reboot also introduced Atreus, Kratos' young son who is destined to shape the Norse world. Various rumors claim that God of War Ragnarok will release in November, has been delayed into 2023 and everything in-between. However, recent teases suggest that some official announcement is imminent.
2018's God of War breathed new life into Santa Monica Studios' hack-and-slash series by making dramatic changes to the established formula. The game takes a much more emotional approach to storytelling, with Kratos and Atreus' relationship forming the core thread of the experience. The shift from Greek to Norse mythology also let players explore a unique new setting and meet beloved new supporting characters like Brok, Sindri and Mimir. Even gameplay was adjusted to reflect God of War's new direction, with the 2018 installment introducing a closer over-the-should perspective and a new signature weapon called the Leviathan Axe. Back in 2020 Santa Monica announced a 2021 sequel called God of War Ragnarok, though it has yet to release, continuing to fuel fan anticipation in its absence.
