Rockstar might not be revealing much information about the next gen versions of GTA 5 and GTA Online but they are offering a discount.
The last time Rockstar were super secretive about a new release, with not even a proper trailer, we got the launch disaster that was GTA: The Trilogy – Definitive Edition, so it’s understandable that some fans are getting increasingly worried about the Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 versions of Grand Theft Auto 5.
Although a few new details and screenshots were shared last week there still hasn’t been a proper trailer and it’s still unclear if the new version will feature any new content or options, beyond slightly better graphics.
The next gen versions are out on March 15 – Tuesday next week – so there’s not much time left for any last minute reveals, although it has just been revealed that the games will be half price for the first three months.
That in itself isn’t terribly encouraging but rather than a comment on the quality this is more likely to be a reaction to the fact that there is no upgrade path for the new versions if you already own the game on another format – so you have to buy it again no matter what.
Until June 14, you’ll able to buy GTA Online as a standalone purchase for £8.99 on Xbox Series X/S, down from £17.99. Likewise, what is now referred to as GTA 5: Story Mode will cost £17.49 until June, at which point it will revert to £34.99.
The idea is that if you want to only play the single-player, or only GTA Online, you don’t have to pay for the other half of the game, but it means the complete package is £26.48 even at half price – and £52.98 without the discount.
