Gearbox Entertainment founder and CEO Randy Pitchford has said new Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands “experiences” are in development after the game “shattered” all of the company’s targets.
The Borderlands spin-off was released in March for PlayStation and Xbox consoles and PC via the Epic Games Store, before hitting Steam in June.
Billed as a high-fantasy take on a looter shooter, it’s set within the world of a tabletop role-playing game called Bunkers and Badasses.
“Gearbox Software achieved a major victory this past year with the launch of a new franchise, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands,” Pitchford said (transcribed by VGC) during Gearbox parent company Embracer Group’s AGM on Wednesday.
“Wonderlands shattered all of our target expectations, both critically and commercially, and I’m thrilled to report that in addition to great financial rewards from this victory that will be coming our way in the coming quarters, we have established a firm beachhead.
“We now clearly have a new franchise on our hands, with future experiences already under development at Gearbox,” Pitchford added.
He didn’t specify whether this meant a brand-new game is already in development, or if Gearbox is just working on further DLC beyond the title’s season pass.
Gearbox completed the acquisition of Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands co-developer Lost Boys Interactive in June 2022. The move added around 220 team members to Gearbox, taking its global headcount to approximately 1,300.
