New Tiny Tina's Wonderlands 'Experiences' Are in Development
During Embracer Group's Annual General Meeting (AGM), Gearbox's Randy Pitchford talked about the success of Tiny Tina's Wonderlands. It's no secret that this Borderlands spin-off, which expanded in many ways on Borderlands 2's Assault on Dragon Keep DLC, has been a huge hit for fans.
Now, Tiny Tina's Wonderlands' DLCs have been hit or miss, not really hitting the same high notes as Borderlands 2 or Borderlands 3 even, but it has received nothing short of a warm welcome as a whole. In fact, it seems that Pitchford considers it a new franchise in and of itself, suggesting more Wonderlands content will come in the future.
Borderlands 2 Giving Away Legendary Weapons for Its Anniversary
As first reported and transcribed by VGC, Pitchford revealed that Tiny Tina's Wonderlands «shattered all of our target expectations, both critically and commercially» and that Gearbox was intending to move forward with this success. ABorderlands movie is in the works and Borderlands 4 seems bound to happen eventually, but Gearbox is already working on more content for Wonderlands too, in some form.
Pitchford stated that Gearbox has «a new franchise on [its] hands, with future experiences already under development.» It's not immediately clear whether he is suggesting a new Wonderlands game is in development or if a second season pass or more DLC is in the works. Either genuinely feels possible. A second season pass would capitalize on Tiny Tina's Wonderlands' current success more quickly and there is precedent for additional DLC in the franchise, as Borderlands 3 received two season passes. However, this statement sees the word «experiences» follow «franchise,» and one game doesn't make a franchise on its own (or even a subfranchise).
