Beloved game studio and developer Mimimi is closing operations after the release of Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew.
In a surprising post to the community and industry, CEO and co-founder of Mimimi Johannes Roth has stated that the studio will conclude its game development work with the successful completion and release of Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew.
The most apparent reason for the closure is the prioritization of real life over “signing up for another multi-year production cycle”. The studio is home to the game development talent behind games like Desperados 3 and Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun.
“While this means that we won’t start production on a new big game, we will continue to fully support Shadow Gambit. We are already working on a patch across all platforms and have a big content drop planned for later this year, which we are sure you will love just as much as we do!”
With their latest game about ghost pirate shenanigans Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew, scoring high praise and a very positive review rating on Steam, the big decision is a surprise. After all, we don’t see many indie game studios that retire at the height of popularity these days.
In any case, the staff of PCZONE wishes all the best to the talented people of Mimimi; here’s to many future personal and professional achievements to come!
