Fans of George R. R. Martin’s Game of Thrones series have only five months to wait to dive back into that world.
Warner Media today confirmed that the House of the Dragon prequel series, set 200 years prior to the events of Game of Thrones, debuts on Aug. 21 on HBO and HBO Max.
The 10-episode House of the Dragon is based on a single, two-volume book from Martin, so it stands to reason that the series will be shorter than the eight-season run of Game of Thrones, which drew on a more extended set of books. House of the Dragon also appears to be truncating the story from Fire & Blood, which kicks things of 300 years before A Game of Thrones.
Fans of the series will find many familiar names, though, as the story follows the history of the Targaryen dynasty, one of the great houses of the series. A pair of twin Lannisters are also listed among the cast. Many events that were just alluded to in Game of Thrones will be put on full display in this new series.
Fantasy lovers have even more to look forward to as the Lord of the Rings prequel series arrives on Amazon Prime Video less than two weeks after House of the Dragon airs its first episode.
