From a camera specifications perspective, it appears that the Galaxy S24 Ultra will just be an iterative update over the Galaxy S23 Ultra, as it has been rumored that Samsung intends to use the same 200MP ISOCELL HP2 sensor for next year’s flagship. However, one tipster also notes that in 2024, the Korean giant is not expected to introduce any optical zoom upgrades to its top-tier offering.
Despite the fact that Ice Universe deleted the tweet that had the relevant information, Sammobile got a hold of the rumor that claims that the Galaxy S24 Ultra will miss out on a 5x optical zoom upgrade. This means that next year’s flagship will retain the 3x optical zoom on the 10MP camera, though it is not confirmed if Samsung re-uses the same sensor here. Now, keep in mind that just because the Korean manufacturer is keeping the same optical zoom on the Galaxy S24 Ultra, it does not mean that this model will be inferior in other areas.
For instance, there are reports that the premium smartphone will ship with 10x optical zoom on the other camera, which may also sport the 10MP resolution as the Galaxy S23 Ultra. It would have been in Samsung’s favor to slightly increase the maximum zoom levels on the Galaxy S24 Ultra, as later this year, it will eventually compete with the iPhone 15 Pro Max, which is said to be Apple’s first-ever iPhone with lossless zoom functionality. Even with this upgrade, the iPhone 15 Pro Max may only extend its zoom level to 6x, giving the Galaxy S24 Ultra an edge, at least on paper.
