Only a couple of days remain for Galaxy Unpacked to kick off, so that likely means that the majority of the specifications surrounding the Galaxy S24 Ultra are already known to readers, particularly the camera, which is rumored to receive a downgrade from 10x optical zoom to 5x. However, despite Samsung seemingly taking one step backward, one tipster notes that the image quality taken from the Galaxy S24 Ultra’s 5x shooter is miles ahead of what the Galaxy S23 Ultra snapped.
Though tipster Ice Universe does not have any image samples to compare, he states on X that the 5x camera belonging to the Galaxy S24 Ultra produces better results than the Galaxy S23 Ultra. With last year’s flagship, the images produced are ‘full of noise’ while the ones snapped from the upcoming model are ‘very smooth and clean.’ In low-light conditions, a camera needs to increase its ISO value to capture more detail when the surrounding light is insufficient.
Unfortunately, that results in lots of noise processing by the image, which is the ‘film grain’ effect that you usually see in movies, with the visual feature also present in most games. Apparently, the Galaxy S24 Ultra has eliminated this obstacle, but the tipster does not mention how Samsung managed to accomplish this. Our hunch is that since the sensor used on the upcoming flagship is rather new, its image computational prowess is significantly more capable than the three-year-old 10x camera on the Galaxy S23 Ultra.
The new 5x sensor of the Galaxy S24 Ultra is generally stronger than the three-year-old 10x sensor. For example, in the evening, when the light is weak, the photos taken by the S24U's 10x are very smooth and clean, while the S23U's 10x is full of noise.
