Gabriel “Fluffy” Iglesias, who has established himself as one of the most successful comedians in the entertainment industry, has now signed on to star in the original animated film I, Chihuahua for Netflix. Iglesias previously starred in three seasons of his own comedy sitcom for Netflix titled Mr. Iglesias, and has also acted in films such as Magic Mike XXL, Space Jam: A New Legacy and the hit Disney/Pixar film Coco. Iglesias has enjoyed a long and notable career as a stand-up comedian, and recently made history when he become the first stand-up comedian to perform at Dodger Stadium.
According to Deadline, Inglesias will both produce and star in the Netflix animated film. I, Chihuahua is being directed by Jorge Gutiérrez, who is known for directing animated films such as Maya and the Three and The Book of Life. Gutiérrez is writing the Netflix film, alongside Doug Landale and Candie Kelty Langdale, who previously penned episodes of the Shrek spinoff series The Adventures of Puss in Boots, and several Scooby-Doo animated films. Iglesias will produce the Netflix animated project, as will Tim Yoon. First-look concept art for I, Chihuahua was also released with the film's announcement, which can be viewed in full below.

According to the publication,I, Chihuahua tells the underdog tale of Chacho, a masked Luchador Chihuahua, who embarks on «a hilarious and action-packed journey around the world to fight for his family.» After learning his home is in danger, Chacho puts on the mask of Lucha Libre to become his alter ego, «Luchacho.» Iglesias' underdog must then enter an international fight tournament and competing against «a hilarious and eclectic mix of animal
