With battle royale games receiving frequent updates, keeping the game balanced can be an incredibly difficult task; this is only made harder when it also has its own competitive mode as is the case with Fortnite. Players that jump between public and Arena matches will instantly notice many differences between the modes, although now it is even more obvious as Arena is the only mode in Fortnite with building enabled.
Public matches in Fortnite is where many of the fun and wacky items end up, whereas Epic Games tries to keep the competitive loot pool more balanced and fair. Balancing is often achieved by not adding new weapons and items to the competitive loot pool until they've been tested in public matches first to ensure they won't disrupt the integrity of the game. But, when it comes to a brand new Fortnite season with an overhauled loot pool and new set of mechanics, these are put into competitive immediately and tweaked over time.
Epic Games Facing Lawsuit Over Fortnite Emote
With the first hotfix update of Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 2 being recently released, Epic Games has continued to make balancing tweaks to some of the weapons in the game, as well as remove the new Titan Tanks from Arena and tournaments. In a tweet, Epic Games explained the changes that have been made to the game.
Fortnite Chapter 3 has so far been heavily focused on the SMGs, with them being much more powerful than the Shotguns that are in the game. This should hopefully not be the case now as the damage for both the Combat and Stinger SMG have been reduced, as well as the headshot damage of the Combat SMG.
