The latest update of Season 5 Chapter 4 introduced new locations and features for the annual Fortnitemares celebration, and one such feature is a Scarecrow players can hide in during matches. The start of Fortnitemares introduced new, spooky seasonal weapons like the Boom Billy and Chainsaw and unvaulted old favorites like the Pumpkin Launcher, Stake Shotgun, and Witch Broom. Players can fight boss fights against Ultima Carver and Billy the Puppet, take on Jigsaw's Challenge, and explore new and updated POIs. In a pinch, they can also hide inside a Scarecrow.
Similar to other hiding spots, like Dumpsters or select Port-a-Potties, players can approach a Scarecrow and interact with it to jump inside and hide. As many new features and locations for Fortnitemares are currently hot drops because they are requirements for quests to earn Fortnitemares cosmetic rewards, jumping inside a Scarecrow and evading or ambushing opponents offers opportunities for powerful seasonal play. However, unlike last year's Winterfest Snowmen, this option is not portable, and Scarecrows currently only spawn in one location on the map.
At the time of writing, all Scarecrows in Season 5 Chapter 4 are located in Freaky Fields, the newest POI that has replaced longstanding Chapter 4 location Reckless Railways. Freaky Fields bears some resemblance to Frenzy Fields and Frenzy Farms before it, containing several barns and silos, a large, dilapidated farmhouse, and tall wheat fields. Scarecrows are primarily within and around the wheat, spawning mainly at random. A few may also appear behind the smaller barn buildings, though most are concentrated in the northwestern segment of the new POI.
Freaky Fields is currently a hot drop, as it is near the center of the map and is the spawn location for Billy the Puppet, which is one of the limited-time Fortnitemares quests.
