A Fortnite player came out on top in a round of battle royale, though they only used items obtained via the fishing mini-game. Epic Games unleashed the fishing mechanic in Fortnite at the start of Chapter 2 Season 1 in October 2019. Getting started with the aquatic-based fun should prove simple enough, given that players can easily find the necessary gear — a fishing rod — while looting chests or searching through randomly scattered barrels.
An integral part of the battle royale experience for many a player, fishing opportunities seem impossible to miss since Epic placed good spots for the activity across the map. From fishing holes and swamplands to coastal areas and mountainous zones, Fortnite boasts an abundance of bodies of water that play host to Flopper, Small Fry, Slurpfish, Jellyfish, and so on. But catching fish isn't the only benefit to this particular in-game activity. Some fishing holes also allow players to catch guns in Fortnite. And sometimes, as demonstrated by Reddit user ZealousMusicNZ, all one needs to win is the gear retrieved from casting a line or two.

The player noted in their captain that they secured the top spot by "using only items I got from fishing, a playstyle I call 'Fish Are Friends.'" Based on the video, the fishing-obtained item that helped the most was an SMG of some kind. And to top it all off, ZealousMusicNZ celebrated their «Victory Royale» by activating the fishing emote — perfectly apropos given the circumstances.
