Forspoken developer Luminous Productions will soon end its run as a separate studio, according to a statement released earlier today. This news comes just over a month after the release of Forspoken.
Luminous Productions started out with the intent to develop AAA game titles that according to the announcement were designed to be a fusion of both artistry and technology. That vision culminated in Forspoken's release on January 25, albeit not without several glaring issues that still need to be fixed.

Nonetheless, on May 1, 2023, Luminous will cease to exist and will be merging with its parent company Square Enix. The announcement was made on Twitter, with the studio highlighting that its team will otherwise remain as-is and will be working on what is being described as «new, innovative gaming experiences to players across the globe» following the transition.
Luminous did confirm, however, that support will continue for Forspoken in the meantime as the studio's main commitment. This includes the upcoming patch that will address many of the technical issues with Forspoken, and the game's DLC, In Tanta We Trust, which is still on the way.
Indeed, the fact that the studio has endured its situation with Forspoken up to this point is a testament to a willingness to deliver on promises to improve on its work. Despite the major technical issues with Forspoken that may or may not have contributed to such a decision, the studio is still going to do right by its players by releasing every piece of its planned game content and fixing the problems before the merger is finalized. But at the same time, it is rarely a good thing when a merger (or even an outright shutdown)
