Apollo Crews has gone from making virtually no noise on WWE's main roster to a main-event player with NXT in just one week, and it sounds like he'll be staying with the developmental brand for the foreseeable future. He appeared on the most recent episode of NXT to tease a match with Bron Breakker, and then teamed up with Solo Sikoa in the show's main event. The crowd was incredibly responsive to the former gold and black NXT standout as well.
Breakker won the blowoff match with Joe Gacy at the recent In Your House event and was in need of a new opponent to look forward to after that lengthy feud. Crews answered that open call, making his presence known on the paint-splattered brand. He told the crowd that "(t)his is the type of energy that I have missed," without the accent he'd adopted on the main roster.

It's now being reported by Mike Johnson of PWInsider.com that Crews' move to NXT is a permanent one. He wrote, "Apollo Crews has been officially moved to the WWE NXT roster, PWInsider.com has confirmed." As for Commander Azeez, "PWInsider.com has also confirmed that Babatunde Aiyegbusi aka Commander Azeez, who had been linked with Crews on camera, has also been officially shifted over to the NXT roster." Azeez did not appear alongside Crews on NXT 2.0 this week.
Despite a strong initial run in NXT, Crews never really found his footing on the main roster. It's a story familiar for so, so many of the gold and black NXTs standouts. His schtick with Commander Azeez landed him closer to the 24/7 Title picture than anywhere near the main event scene, and his run with the Intercontinental Title and the United States Championship were both forgettable.
