Following years of delays, the long-awaited Dead Island 2 has finally gone gold.
In addition to announcing that the main development of the game has been completed, publisher Deep Silver has brought forward the sequel’s release date by one week.
The game will now launch on April 21 for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One and PC via the Epic Games Store.
First announced in 2014, the zombie action RPG has suffered a series of delays and changes of developer.
It was originally in the works at Spec Ops: The Line studio Yager before development duties were taken over by Sumo Digital. Dambuster, an internal Deep Silver studio, then took over development in 2019.

Dead Island 2 takes place in Los Angeles and features six playable characters.

“Dead Island 2 is stylish, vibrant and flooded with zombie infection. Explore iconic, gore-drenched Los Angeles. Meet larger-than-life characters. Slay countless foes in exquisitely bloody detail. And evolve to become the ultimate Zombie Slayer!”
Players who pre-purchase the game will receive access to the Memories of Banoi DLC pack, featuring two unique weapons, a special weapon perk and skill card.
