Fitbit is closing the gap between fitness tracker and smartwatch features, with the latest Charge 5 software update introducing a "Find Phone" option.
As 9To5Google reports(Opens in a new window), update version 1.171.50 rolled out this week with a "Find Phone" function, located between Screen Wake and Water Lock on the clock face.
Tapping the new function opens an app with a "Find Phone" button, which makes your paired device emit a loud tone. It will work as long as your handset and Bluetooth are turned on, it's paired with your Charge 5, and within 30 feet of your wearable. The Fitbit app must also be running in the background on your phone. Once your phone is located, tapping "Cancel" will stop the sound.
Previously available only via Fitbit's smartwatches (including the Sense and Versa 3), the "Find Phone" function appears to be the only user-facing change included in this update. Last month Fitbit said it was working on a fix(Opens in a new window) for the phone connectivity issues some folks are experiencing. However, at time of publishing, Fitbit's software update release notes haven't been released so we can't confirm the fix is included.
Fitbit launched its Charge 5 last fall, touting an always-on color touch screen and slew of health features, two of which—an electrocardiogram (ECG) app and Daily Readiness Score (for Premium members)—were added in November.
