Harry Potter fans everywhere were excited to get their first real glimpse of gameplay for Hogwarts Legacy and the recent PlayStation State of Play did not disappoint. The highly-anticipated open-world RPG was first revealed back in 2020, but Warner Bros recently teased an extensive look at Hogwarts Legacy gameplay.
Hogwarts Legacy will be unique in several ways as it relates to the Harry Potter franchise. It will be a prequel, set in the 19th century, and will not feature many of the most prominent characters from the books and movies. Hogwarts Legacy will not be directly tied to the franchise in this way, and will not include features prominent in past Harry Potter games like Quiddich. Instead, players will be able to create their own custom wizard or witch, choose one of the four Hogwarts houses, and improve magical skills like potion brewing, charms, and herbology. As the first true Harry Potter RPG, fans of the franchise have been anxiously awaiting a true gameplay footage reveal so they can get a sense of how deep the character creation and leveling of Hogwarts Legacy will be.

During the PlayStation State of Play, Hogwarts Legacy showed off a ton of new content previously unknown as well as several interesting gameplay mechanics. Players will take the role of a new fifth-year student at Hogwarts and will have to attend many of the classes seen in the books. As expected, much of the gameplay in Hogwarts Legacy pertains to these classes, like showing students dueling in their Defense Against the Dark Arts class.
