Marvel Just Turned Ghost Rider Into Its New Version of the Hulk

Johnny Blaze, the original Ghost Rider, is back in a new series, and Marvel is turning him into something very similar to the Hulk. In a preview for Ghost Rider#2 by Benjamin Percy, Cory Smith, Brent Peeples, and Bryan Valenza, Johnny Blaze's relationship with his flaming alter ego is altered significantly.
Johnathon «Johnny» Blaze was a carnival performer and a stuntman whose life changed forever the day he made a deal with the demon Mephisto to save his foster father from cancer. As a result, Johnny's soul became bound to Zarathos, the Spirit of Vengeance, and during the night he transformed into the Ghost Rider, a demonic creature who hunted sinners to punish them with its fearsome Penance Stare. Originally, Johnny was able to transform only at night, which made him very similar to Bruce Banner, who in the first Hulk stories transformed into the Jade Goliath only after the sunset (a condition that resurfaced in the recent Immortal Hulk series).

After some time, Johnny Blaze was able to transform into the Ghost Rider at will. Bruce Banner, on the other hand, never had such an easy relationship with his alter ego. Regardless of which Hulk «persona» is dominant at the moment, Banner's control over his alter ego is always tenuous at the best, and his transformations are usually triggered by rage. A preview for Ghost Rider #2, shared by AIPT, shows that Johnny Blaze's control over the Ghost Rider has regressed too, as he wakes up in a situation very similar to what Bruce Banner has experienced so many times.
