Square Enix has officially announced that the next game in the Final Fantasy Remake series is called Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, and it will be part of a trilogy. It was originally revealed that more FF7 Remake news was arriving in June, with many speculating that the next entry in the series would finally be unveiled to the public.
FF7 Remake was initially revealed during E3 2015, with a brief trailer showing Cloud and Barret's backs. The fans would have to make do with that back shot for years, as FF7 Remake wouldn't be released on the PS4 until 2020. The game would later receive an updated PS5 port, called FF7 Remake Intergrade, which was brought to PC via the Epic Games Store. Square Enix confirmed that the sequel to FF7 Remake entered development as soon as the first game was released, but the exact time for the new game was unclear, as many of the elements (such as the combat system) were fleshed out in FF7 Remake, which should shorten production time. However, the game also entered development during the pandemic, which has affected a number of games.
