Fear The Walking Dead tripped over its own bowling shoes in season 7's «Mourning Cloak.» Shifting from Alicia's crash-course in classical music to undead Romeo & Juliet, Fear The Walking Dead season 7 introduces Ashton Arbab as Ali. Fear The Walking Dead season 7 then promptly kills off Ashton Arbab's Ali, continuing a strange pattern of exciting guest stars failing to survive beyond a single episode. A loyal member of Victor Strand's Tower community, Ali is training to become a ranger when he encounters Charlie from Morgan's submarine crew. As teenage hormones rage, the pair inevitably evolve from begrudging travel companions to love's young dream.
Ali and Charlie (Chali?) get their turning point whilst holing up in a bowling alley. Pursued by Arno's Stalkers, Ali recalls the nearby ten-pin haven from his pre-apocalypse childhood, and guides Charlie there to hide among the varnished lanes and smelly communal footwear. To pass the time, Ali teaches Charlie how to bowl. All his talk of spin and center arrows causes sparks to fly, melting the ice and paving the way for a kiss later in the episode. It's a sweet moment between two of Fear The Walking Dead's younger survivors — but the spinoff gets so lost in conjuring teenage romance, a massive opportunity is wasted like a fastball straight through a 7-10 split.
