FX has announced Fargo--the limited anthology series loosely inspired by the 1996 film of the same name--will be coming back for Season 5. No production start date or casting information has been announced.
Creator and showrunner Noah Hawley hinted this next batch of episodes could have been a possibility as early as September 2020. These upcoming episodes will be set in 2019, and the only other solid information shared in the release takes the form of a question: «When is a kidnapping not a kidnapping, and what if your wife isn't yours?»
«Noah Hawley is a masterful storyteller who has successfully created four wholly original seasons of one of the most brilliant series on television,» said Michael Wright, president of scripted television at MGM. «We cannot wait to see his vision for Season 5 come to life with our partners at FX.»
After Season 4 wrapped, Hawley said his focus during the pandemic shifted to writing a novel. The previous batch of episodes was particularly memorable for comedian Chris Rock's turn as a drama actor--something he has discussed at length. Intriguingly, Rock has also spoken about how production stoppages due to the pandemic helped his performance. He also took time to clarify that he doesn't make the distinction between comedic and serious roles. «I believe everything that's good is good because it's taken seriously… I'm attracted to the storytelling and the filmmaking.»
