The Fantastic Four's epic Reckoning War, an event fifteen years in the making, is finally over — and absolutely nothing has changed. Writer Dan Slott ends his Fantastic Four run with a massive war for the future of the Marvel Universe which includes appearances from Doctor Doom, Galactus, the Silver Surfer, and other allies and enemies of Marvel's First Family. Unfortunately,Fantastic Four #45 ends not with a bang, but with a rather disappointing whimper.
The first hint of a Reckoning War appeared in 2005 with members of the Time Variance Authority mentioning the event to She-Hulk; her actions cause the event to occur and she is blamed for the entire affair. Other hints would be dropped by Dan Slott throughout the years until the even began properly late last year. The war revolves around the emergence of a species known as the Prosilicans; now calling themselves the Reckoning, they launch an all-0ut assault on every corner of the universe. In Fantastic Four #45, written by Dan Slott with art by Farid Karami, the story ends with Uatu the Watcher absorbing the knowledge and abilities of the other Watchers; armed with phenomenal power, he resets the universe to a state seen before the war began.
