MARVEL SPOILERS AHEADAs part of its SDCC celebrations, Marvel has been incredibly forthcoming with fans. It has outlined not only the end of MCU Phase 4 and detailed all of Phase 6, but it has detailed three movies that are part of phase 6, with plenty of room for more. Fantastic Four opens MCU Phase 6, while twoAvengers movies are also slated, with Secret Wars seemingly capping it off.
Indeed, it's an impressive slate of upcoming content, even including the official return of Daredevil to the MCU. But for many fans, Fantastic Four is the next big hurdle for Marvel. The actors, the directors, the story, and all of that are super important as the First Family enters the MCU. A lot of details have been left in the air, but recent Kevin Feige comments make the movie sound like Spider-Man: Homecoming. This is huge if true, and it would be the best thing Marvel could do.
It Makes Sense to Do Fewer Avengers Movies Now
Marvel movies have a formula, especially origin stories. Iron Man, Captain America, The Incredible Hulk, Black Panther, and more all see these heroes facing what amounts to their evil counterparts. Origin stories have their place, but now so far into the MCU, they need something new. That's exactly what Spider-Man: Homecoming did. It does not tell the origin story of Spider-Man, as fans know all about Ben Parker dying and Peter being bitten by a radioactive Spider, and by foregoing these origin movie elements, Spider-Man: Homecoming told a true Spidey story that was fresh for fans. The ultimate payoff could even be when Aunt May gives him the great power and great responsibility spiel in No Way Home; it feels more earned and definitive.
