Although Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore was a step in the right direction, Fantastic Beasts 4 still has a lot of work to do to fix things. The first Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them movie seemed like a promising start to a new Wizarding World story, but the sequel Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald was criticized for its confusing and overstuffed plot. After its poor reviews and disappointing box office, Warner Bros. hoped Fantastic Beasts 3 would be able to turn the franchise around.
The Secrets of Dumbledore did indeed manage to correct many of its predecessors' mistakes. The movie focused on fewer characters and retconned the most convoluted storylines, and was better received by critics for its efforts. Fantastic Beasts 3 was an overall improvement for the franchise, but it could not completely eradicate all of its problems.

WhileFantastic Beasts 3 solved some plot holes, it accidentally caused others. Tina Goldstein was one of the most important characters in the first two Fantastic Beasts movies, and to exclude her almost entirely from Fantastic Beasts 3 was a crime.
