Millions of Fallout 4 mods were installed this weekend, as fans flock back to the games. In fact, more Fallout 4 mods have been installed this month than ever before, with data from Nexus Mods showing that this is the busiest modding community has ever been.
At its peak, almost six million mods were installed on Sunday alone, the busiest it's ever been since Fallout 4's launch in 2015. This already makes April 2024 the busiest month for Fallout 4 modding ever, with 33,226,915 mods installed at the time of writing according to Nexus Mods' data.
Kudos to CHAD: A Fallout 76 Podcast for spotting this huge spike in downloads following the show's premiere, also noting that other Fallout games are seeing similar activity on the site.
It's much the same story over on the Nexus Mods page for Fallout: New Vegas, with stats showing that 11,374,516 mods were installed this Sunday. This is, you guessed it, also enough to break the previous record, set last year.
The games have seen huge playerbase spikes since the Fallout show released on Prime Video, with Fallout 76 enjoying its most successful day on Steam since records began. It's amusing that we're seeing the same trend play out in the modding scene since we often joke about how Fallout games simply have to be played with mods. Jokes aside, this is a clear sign that many of us take that mindset very seriously.
Despite this, Fallout 3 doesn't appear to have had a huge increase in mod popularity since the show's premiere, but that can be explained. Many will flock to Fallout 4 as it's the most recent mainline entry in the series, with its modern controls and visuals making it far more approachable for newcomers. As for New Vegas, Fallout's season one finale strongly suggests that the Obsidian game will play a major role in the show going forward, so it makes sense that it has fans wanting to go back to the Mojave.
