Warning! Spoilers ahead for Venom: Lethal Protector #3
Even after all this time one of the bizarre mysteries of the Marvel Universe is the nature of symbiotes, and as it turns out, not even Venom knows how his symbiote works.
Venom's past is well known Marvel history as Spider-Man rejected the symbiote suit, causing it to bond with Eddie Brock and creating Venom in the process. Since then, the world of symbiotes has exploded with other characters such as Carnage, Toxin, and even the symbiote God and creator Knull. But even though he opposed Spider-Man, Venom viewed himself as a hero, even moving to San Francisco and dubbing himself a lethal protector as an anti-hero based in the city.

These early days are being retold in Venom: Lethal Protector #3 by David Michelinie and Ivan Fiorelli. As someone new to the hero game, Venom even struggles against B and C-level foes. He's even had a mysterious organization approach him to help him understand how his symbiote works, which he really doesn't know a lot about. During the issue, Venom questions why he looks like a monster while Spider-Man wore it like a regular costume. He speculates that it might have something to do with how he is being perceived by the world, but this is just a guess. The truth is that even being boded to each other does not reveal all of the symbiote's inner workings.
Different writers and creators have tried to make various rules surrounding the symbiotes over the years.
