Giovanni, the menacing leader of Team GO Rocket, is once again ready to receive a challenge from any trainer in August 2022 that is eager to beat him in Pokémon GO. Although the roster of Pokémon that every Team GO Rocket leader uses can change from month to month, Giovanni's team remains almost identical to the one he used in July 2022. However, this does not mean that Giovanni will be a pushover by any means, as trainers will still need to take down some of his toughest Pokémon to beat him in Pokémon GO.

Without a doubt, the toughest Pokémon to face in Giovanni's team is his prized Shadow Latios. In July 2022, players who successfully defeated Giovanni could catch his Shadow Latios in Pokémon GO and claim the Legendary Dragon- and Psychic-type for themselves. Shadow Pokémon are a staple of any Team GO Rocket member's party, and they are far more brutal to challenge than their standard counterparts. These types of Pokémon have an inherent offensive strength in battle that makes Shadow Pokémon harder to face than the regular or purified versions, but powering them up requires less Stardust and Candy than other types as well. In August 2022, players who successfully defeat Giovanni can catch Shadow Latios as well.

Before trainers can face Giovanni, they'll have to complete the Team GO Rocket research in Pokémon GO, including the takedown of other leaders such as Cliff, Sierra, and Arlo. The teams used by Cliff, Sierra, and Arlo in Pokémon GO during July 2022 are once again used by each of these Team GO Rocket leaders in August. While they aren't sporting any Legendaries on their teams, the Shadow Pokémon of each boss will still be difficult to defeat nonetheless.
