A LEGO build-off is taking place between sci-fi heavyweights EVE Online and Star Citizen where the games' communities will be building ships belonging to the opposite game. The Battle of the Bricks competition is being held to raise money for the Extra Life charity which works closely with children's hospitals on behalf of the gaming community.
EVE Online and Star Citizen have enjoyed a friendly rivalry over the years as both games compete for the attention of hardcore sci-fi gamers. Although both titles feature vastly different gameplay styles, their respective sci-fi settings, MMO scale, and mechanical depth attract similar types of players. Many EVE Online and Star Citizen fans have dabbled with both games which share a reputation for being highly immersive «second lives» for their players. While Star Citizen continues to grow thanks to its massive crowdfunding resources, 19-year-old EVE Online has retained a loyal player base with a strong sense of community.

The LEGO build-off between EVE Online andStar Citizen began with a tweet fromStar Citizen back in December showcasing a LEGO build of a Drake Vulture ship. EVE Online responded «SC, Can I bring a Venture?» poking fun at the undeniable similarity between the two ship designs. This sparked a full-blown competition between the two games, The Battle of the Bricks. The communities from both games created digital designs for LEGO builds of the opposing game's ships which are going to be assembled live during the event's Twitch stream.
