James Marsden has confirmed that Idina Menzel will sing in the Enchanted sequel Disenchanted. Disenchanted will be picking up 15 years after the events of the 2007 live-action Disney hit, with an exclusive streaming release on Disney+ later this year. The cast from the first film has been reassembled, including Marsden, Menzel, Amy Adams, and Patrick Dempsey. The film has also brought on new performers including Oscar Nuñez, Yvette Nicole Brown, Jayma Mays, and SNLalum Maya Rudolph.
One curious thing about the original film was that, though the musical featured Broadway veteran Menzel in one of the four major roles, it did not have her sing a song on the soundtrack. This made sense in the context of the plot, which was about an animated Disney princess emerging into real-life New York City, so the only major cast members to sing were Adams and Marsden, who hailed from that world. However, Adams' character Giselle had a proven ability to get other people to sing along with her, as shown in the «That's How You Know» musical number she performed in Central Park along with hundreds of extras, so it's still somewhat strange that Menzel was not involved in any musical moments.
