Maribel Madrigal becomes one of the family leaders at the end of Encanto, and the film subtly hinted at it the whole time. In Encanto, Mirabel Madrigal (Stephanie Beatriz) doesn't seem to get many breaks. Most of Mirabel's family members received magical gifts in the film. For instance, Mirabel's sister Isabela (Diane Guerrero) can create flowers and plants, and Mirabel's cousin Camilo (Rhenzy Feliz) can shapeshift into whatever person he wants. However, Mirabel never gets a special power during her childhood gifting ceremony. As a result, Mirabel feels like an outcast in her family, and Abuela Alma (María Cecilia Botero) becomes concerned that the Madrigals are losing their magic. However, Mirabel's lack of magic makes her more determined to figure out why the Madrigals' magical house begins to crumble.
By the end of Encanto, it's clear Mirabel will walk in Abuela Alma's footsteps as the family's leader. After the house falls apart, Abuela Alma finally tells Mirabel the whole story of the night their family received its miracle. During the song «Dos Oruguitas,» she explains how her husband, Pedro, sacrificed himself to save the family and the village. She also says that Pedro must've sent Mirabel to help her. Mirabel leads the family and the village in constructing a new house, and she brings the magic back to the family by placing the doorknob on the entrance. Her image appears right on the front of the house, along with pictures of her family members.
