Encanto director Jared Bush challenges a fan theory that suggested Dolores is sad in her depiction on Casita's door. Encanto premiered theatrically on November 24, 2021, and hit Disney+ on December 24. The film follows the Madrigal family, who live in a magical community called the Encanto, created from Abuela Alma's miracle candle as she fled her home in Colombia. All of Abuela's children and grandchildren are blessed with a gift from the Encanto, except Mirabel, who received no magical ability. But, when the magic of the Encanto starts to fade, she is the only one that can save it.
Encanto performed extremely well and garnered numerous awards, including the Oscar for Best Animated Feature. The popularity of the film has inevitably led to many fan theories; after all, the movie does leave some points fairly ambiguous, such as the exact reason why Mirabel didn't get a gift or why Dolores apparently didn't know Bruno was living in the walls, despite her gift of keen hearing. Dolores especially is the center of many fan theories, due to her gift being a little less glorious and her being in love with Mariano, despite him initially being promised to Isabela.
