Companions are an essential feature of Elex 2. They have useful combat support and even have unique personal stories to explore. In addition, several of them return from the last game, continuing or changing their outlook after the war.
Jax can normally only have one true companion with him at a time. However, this does not factor in additional characters who are along for a particular quest. There may be up to four companions temporally assisting players by undergoing several side quests at once.

Each companion in Elex 2 belongs to a Magalan faction: Berserkers, Albs, Morkons, Clerics, or Outlaws. This significantly affects how they respond to quests and other player choices in Elex 2. Therefore, it is best to bring the corresponding companion to a faction's questline and remove them if said faction is the enemy target.
Several team members return from the first Elex. They all have canon outcomes from the original game, shaping their attitude towards Jax and what their goals are for Magalan. Due to this history, returning allies may have good or bad opinions of one another.
Caja
Caja is a Berserker warrior, the canon romance from Elex, and mother to Jax's son. Caja is a mage that mostly uses fireballs. She has taken over the small Abandoned Farm as a Berserker outpost. As part of the main story, she will ask Jax to take their son Dex to Bastion. Afterwards, speak to her again, and she will offer up a mission to displace a group of Morkon Bloodhounds around the area.
