The lore of Elden Ring features a few George R.R. Martin Easter eggs, which shouldn't come as too much of a surprise since the famed fantasy novelist helped craft the backstory. FromSoftware and publisher Bandai Namco Entertainment began teasing Martin's contribution to Elden Ring lore upon announcing the title in 2019. The author most notably helped shape the make-up of the Lands Between and even had a hand in naming the open-world locale, according to Game Director Hidetaka Miyazaki.
Similar to the Soulsborne games before it, the ins and outs of Elden Ring's mysterious world are often told through item descriptions and the like. As such, players who want to fully understand every facet of the story and its larger-than-life characters must explore each nook and cranny they come across while navigating the Lands Between. Some of the most fascinating details to be found revolve around Elden Ring's various demigods, all of whom bear quite the interesting connection to George R.R. Martin.

Elden Ring's demigods all have names that start with the letters G, R, or M, as noticed by PC Gamer's Jonathan Bolding. In fact, the names of the core four characters - Godfrey, Rennala, Radagon, and Marika — spell out George R.R. Martin's initials, GRRM. The connection doesn't stop there, either. Elden Lord Godfrey's and Queen Marika's three children were similarly named: Godwyn, Morgott, and Mogh. Rennala and Radagon were so obsessed with the letter R that their descendants go by Radahn, Rykard, Ranni, and Renna.
