Like much of the lore in Elden Ring, the Shattering's timestamp is a difficult event to fully pinpoint. However, with some observations from Elden Ring's NPCs and other world details, a reasonable timespan from the game's storyline back to the beginning of the Shattering can be speculated. While the date between these two separate ages is much harder to guess, the events of the Shattering itself are laid much more clearly.
Prior to the beginning of Elden Ring's main storyline, there was an abrupt event known as the Shattering, which was a war that brought chaos upon the once peaceful Lands Between. The warring and Shattering events were sparked by the assassination of Godwyn the Golden. Godwyn was a demi-god and safe keeper of the Rune of Death — a powerful rune that kept those who'd died from coming back to the Lands Between to wreak havoc. The past peaceful rule under Elden Ring's Golden Order and Queen Marika became useless as powerful demi-gods no longer trusted each other and battled for superiority over the land. After years of warring had passed, no ultimate winners came out on top, which set the stage for a new Tarnished to claim Elden Lordship.

As Ranni the Snow Witch describes in the story trailer for Elden Ring uploaded by BANDAI NAMCO: "It happened an age ago." She, of course, was referring to the events of the Shattering based on the present time. An age, however, is a relatively broad term. Although it can imply the distant past, it isn't exactly specific. Elden Ring has its own unique history, but based on Ranni's memory of the Shattering, it's possible that it happened about 100-250 years before Elden Ring's Tarnished protagonist showed up.
