Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising has a release date. The prequel to Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes will arrive on PC, Xbox Game Pass, and all major consoles on May 10.
Last year, the mere existence of Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising came as a complete surprise. Developer Rabbit & Bear Studios never mentioned Rising during its wildly successful Kickstarter campaign for Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes, so when a prequel game was first announced during last summer’s Xbox E3 showcase, fans were left in total shock.

Little was known about Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising other than it would set the stage for Hundred Heroes, but thanks to a 30-minute developer preview, we have a much better idea of what we’re getting into with Rising.
Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising is a 2D action RPG that shares the same art style as Hundred Heroes and introduces us to the world of Eiyuden Chronicle. Rather than control a full party of many characters, Rising reduces your workload to just controlling one of three characters at a time.
You’ll start as a young scavenger named CJ who’s looking for materials to help rebuild a ruined mining town. He’ll soon meet with the town’s young mayor to investigate ancient ruins unearthed after a recent earthquake. And then the two will meet up with a wandering swordsman named Garoo who also happens to be a kangaroo.
Combat involves actively swapping between each of the three characters to chain attacks and buffs together. It’s a very different style than what we saw in the preview trailer for Hundred Heroes, which sort of lends some evidence that Rising will be a smaller spinoff appetizer while Hundred Heroes is the main course.
We won't have to wait
