Dying Light 2's first expansion won't take place after the events of the main game and will instead take place alongside it.
We've seen a few different pieces of DLC released for Dying Light 2 since its launch, but it's mostly amounted to costumes and weapons, with the first big expansion still not having been detailed. Although many assumed it would take place after the ambiguous ending of the main game, like Dying Light: The Following before it, it seems that it'll instead run parallel to the main story.

This news comes thanks to an interview between Game Informer and Dying Light 2's lead game designer Tymon Smektała. During the interview, Smektala talks about plans for the first expansion, revealing, "We don’t want to fall into this repeating pattern where players will kind of know what to expect from us,” he says. “Having said that, for example, the first story DLC that we have promised, I’ve seen a lot of speculation online about what it will be and I can say confidently that they…weren’t close to the mark.”
Smektala continued, revealing that the team is considering some DLC that takes place after the main game, "At some point, we will actually start adding to the events that happened at the end of the game. We have some ideas. On paper, as they are implemented right now, it seems promising, but definitely, this will be a challenge."
