DoorDash is making it cheaper for students to sign up for unlimited deliveries by launching DashPass for Students this week.
It costs $4.99 per month, which is half the price of the standard DashPass membership. In return, students get unlimited free deliveries on eligible orders over the minimum subtotals. There's also 5% DoorDash credits back on pickup orders, and the promise of member-only promotions and exclusive menu items.
Of course, you'll have to prove to DoorDash that you are a student before signing up for this cheaper membership. DashPass for Students is open to all undergraduate and graduate students at accredited colleges and universities in the US. First-time users can take advantage of a 30-day free trial, and it's possible to lower the student membership even further by signing up for a year and paying $48 upfront ($4 per month equivalent).
The launch of a student membership is in response to a survey DoorDash carried out that found 70% of college students order food through an app four times a week on average. More than a quarter of students spend over $100 a week on food delivery, and 65% of students order food between 9-10pm at night. Pizza is the most popular order (69% of students). Clearly DoorDash wants as many of these students using its service as possible.
