Doctor Who Trailer: Bridgerton’s Nicola Coughlan Joins Ncuti Gatwa in New Christmas Special
Disney+ has shared a new trailer for the upcoming Christmas special of the BBC’s long-running sci-fi series of the same name. The special, titled “Joy to the World,” will be available for streaming on Wednesday, December 25.
“When Joy checks into a London hotel in 2024, she opens a secret doorway to the Time Hotel — discovering danger, dinosaurs and the Doctor. But a deadly plan is unfolding across the Earth, just in time for Christmas,” reads the official synopsis.

The video introduces Bridgerton vet Nicola Coughlan as Joy, who has joined Ncuti Gatwa’s titular Time Lord in his newest adventure. The episode will bring Joy and the Doctor to the Time Hotel, where they’ll encounter dinosaurs and a possible clone of the titular hero.

Doctor Who: Joy to the World special is executive produced and written by Steven Moffat (Sherlock), with Alex Sanjiv Pillai (Bridgerton) serving as the director. The special will also star Steph de Whalley as Anita, Jonathan Aris as Melnak, Joel Fry as Trev, Peter Benedict as Basil, Julia Watson as Hilda, and Niamh Marie Smith as Sylvia.
The series currently hails from showrunner Russell T. Davies, who is executive producing alongside Phil Collinson, Joel Collins, Julie Gardner, and Jane Tranter. It is a production by Bad Wolf and BBC Studios. The next installment is slated to premiere in 2025 on Disney+, where available, and on BBC iPlayer in the U.K.
