A classic villain from the Matt Smith era could be returning to Doctor Who in the spinoff Doctor Who: Redacted. The longest-running science-fiction TV series in the world, Doctor Who has long reveled in the potential for transmedia and spinoffs. The latest example is an audio drama available on BBC Sounds. Starring Charlie Craggs, Lois Chimimba, and Holly Quin-Ankrah, this spinoff, Doctor Who: Redacted, demonstrates how to properly reinvent the series.
Although Doctor Who: Redacted does feature the Thirteenth Doctor (Jodie Whittaker), in truth it's a Doctor-light story exploiting the show's rich history for a tale in which everyone who has ever known the Doctor is being erased from existence. The effect doesn't seem to be restricted to the present day, either, with even Queen Victoria deleted — she crossed paths with David Tennant's Tenth Doctor in the episode «Tooth and Claw,» leading to her establishing the Torchwood Institute. Doctor Who: Redacted is a chilling science-fiction mystery, with its main characters struggling to understand the world they've been plunged into while unable to retain any memory of the Doctor.
