Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has its first batch of reviews, and the Rotten Tomatoes score falls a bit below what most people expect from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The movie is expected to really blow open Marvel's movie multiverse, so Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness's critical reception and financial performance could have a major influence on Marvel's future movie plans.
After kicking off a big 2000s comic book boom with Spider-Man, Sam Raimi is back directing another Marvel movie, this time taking the reins on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness after the departure of the original Doctor Strange director, Scott Derrickson. This time, Wanda Maximov, AKA Scarlett Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), joins Doctor Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) in what's being billed as the MCU's «scariest» movie yet, blowing the MCU even more wide open as the post-Avengers Endgame Phase 4 continues to unfold.

With its first batch of reviews, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has a Fresh Rotten Tomatoes score of 75 percent, which, while being a Fresh score, comes in lower than the MCU's previous 84 percent average. It's also the only MCU movie other than The Incredible Hulk or Thor The Dark World to get a Fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes but not get the bonus Rotten Tomatoes Certified Fresh seal. Just two MCU releases ago, Eternals received the lowest Rotten Tomatoes score in the MCU with 47 percent, but only 4 total movies in the franchise have scored lower than 75 percent, placing Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness as the 24th ranking movie out of 28 total MCU releases.
