A new fan poster for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness imagines Hayley Atwell playing Captain Carter the live-action movie. Atwell made her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut as Agent Peggy Carter in 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger. As its title implies, Carter witnessed Steve Rogers get administered the Super Soldier Serum and become Captain America. Atwell would go on to reprise her role in the Agent Carter spin-off series and Disney+’s animated What If…?, which explores the multiverse, variants, and alternate versions of key MCU events.
In What If…?’s pilot, entitled “What If… Captain Carter Were the First Avenger,” Peggy is administered the Super Soldier Serum instead of Steve Rogers and, therefore, becomes Captain Carter. She goes on to lead the Guardians of the Multiverse to victory against Ultron in the final episodes of season 1. What If…? has been confirmed as canon within the MCU, and many assume the multiversal series will tie into the live-action films. Furthermore, the Doctor Strange sequel, Multiverse of Madness, has teased the inclusion of Captain Carter by hiding her shield in posters. More recently, Marvel Studios seemingly confirmed Captain Carter and Lashana Lynch’s Maria Rambeau in a 15-second TV spot.
