With the release of a new Super Bowl trailer, it looks as though Doctor Strange and Scarlet Witch's trip through alternate realities in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will garner the attention of a multiversal superhero team, the Illuminati, who could be composed of a variety of MCU mainstays and newcomers. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness promises an even bigger multiversal event than Spider-Man: No Way Home. After all, the story will center on the most powerful Marvel sorcerer of all time and the most dangerous witch to ever exist.
Taking into account the overwhelmingly positive reception to the return of Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, Willem Dafoe, and Alfred Molina in Spider-Man: No Way Home, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness may need a cameo or two by characters that Marvel fans either already love or are eager to see join the MCU. Technically, the concept of the multiverse makes it possible for any iteration of any character to appear, but factors such as plot relevance and actor availability also need to be considered. Still, Doctor Strange's central role in the safekeeping of reality means that a wide variety of multiversal Marvel characters could make an appearance. So, what better way to justify their introduction than to assemble them in a team like the Illuminati?
