Though Disney Dreamlight Valley is in early access, everyone is rushing to get their hands on it. Yet another cozy life simulation where you can decorate your village full of fun friends. The key difference between other cozy farming simulations and this one is Disney characters. Dreamlight is your upgradable currency, and there are ways to get more, such as acquiring Dream Shards.

How do you get Dream Shards? There are multiple ways, but they don't all yield great results. You will have to grind to get a good amount of Dream Shards if you're looking to unlock a 10,000 Dreamlight area, for example.
The main way to get Dream Shards is by digging. You don't have to dig the glowing holes that are indicated to be dug. You can actually stab at the ground a bunch. Sometimes tufts of grass will come out; other times, you will get Dream Shards.
It will take a while to get a good amount by doing this, but it is one of the main ways to get Dream Shards. If you're wondering how you got so many at the beginning, it's probably from all the yard work you did to clean up the town.
There are many different "critters" in Disney Dreamlight Valley. Each area has a designated animal. The main area your house is in will have squirrels, the Forest of Valor will have raccoons, and Dazzle Beach will have turtles.
When you feed these animals food they really like, they will most often reward you with a Dream Shard.
This is why you mysteriously have a bunch of Dream Shards in your inventory and don't know where they came from. At the beginning of the game, you did a lot of cleaning up around town, and removing Night Thorns will always reward you with Dream Shards or coins.
