Get ready to see OpenAI’s technology on messaging platform Discord.
First, the company will use OpenAI’s computer models to upgrade Clyde, the existing Discord bot. Hence, users can expect the new AI-powered Clyde to offer a ChatGPT-like experience.
“Clyde can now answer questions and have extended conversations with you and your friends. Just by typing @Clyde in a server, you can chat with Clyde in any channel,” Discord says(Opens in a new window).
You can already use ChatGPT on the standalone OpenAI website. But Discord says the integration with Clyde stands out by letting everyone in a Discord server converse with the bot, which can act as a helpful assistant by serving up information and completing requests on command.
In a demo to journalists, Discord showed this can include asking Clyde to find the right GIF for a moment, requesting the time zone for Japan, and offering trivia on cats. Expect the AI-powered Clyde to roll out next week.
Another upcoming AI-powered feature is “Conversation Summaries,” which can sum up the gist of all the messages you missed while away from a Discord server. The function works by breaking down the stream of past chats into topics. You can then click a topic to see the friends and messages involved in the discussion.
“This feature can be enabled in Server Settings and we’ll be experimenting with Conversation Summaries in a limited number of servers starting next week,” Discord adds.
The company is also using OpenAI’s technology to improve a content-moderation system called AutoMod, which already offers several content filters to block out unwanted messages.
