One of the biggest features ahead of the launch ofDestiny 2's The Witch Queen expansion was that the game was getting its first new weapon archetype since the introduction of bows in Forsaken three years ago. Known as glaives, their presentation made them out to be a versatile weapon archetype that could equally delve into its melee aspect, its defensive aspect, or its ability to shoot projectiles at targets. These traits of Destiny 2's glaive are all present in the current iteration of the weapon, but they are not exactly working with all the various perks associated with them.
Glaives are hybrid weapons that don't really fulfill a particular niche or need for a niche, meaning that the endgame experience in Destiny 2 is often better without them. This is mainly due to the projectiles not feeling snappy enough in terms of speed and damage, and the fact that using glaives as melee weapons is often either dangerous or underwhelming. The weapon needed buffs to be viable, and Bungie is addressing coming changes in Season 17 with today's TWAB.

Today's TWAB outlines all the changes that glaives will be going through with Destiny 2's next season, starting with a damage buff to their melee attacks, which will now deal 25% extra damage against all PvE combatants outside of vehicles and bosses. The shield portion of the glaives is also getting a buff in terms of duration, as the shield bar will deplete 30% slower than before, and it will still require four projectile hits to be filled. Lastly, projectiles are also becoming faster to travel to enemies, a buff that's consistent across the board and that makes Impulse Amplifier a less mandatory perk.
